Firstly, we would like to thank all of those who took the time to complete a survey form. It is very important for us to ask you these questions, from time to time, so we can ensure that we are presenting concerts that will be most satisfactory to as many as possible.
We are very pleased to have received 111 completed forms which represents around half of our current membership. This provides us with a good representation of your musical preferences.
As with any survey there are always items of confusion and areas for improvement. Although many questions were answered the results inevitably caused us to think of more questions that we should have asked!
On this page we list a summary of the results obtained; for further details and graphs select any of the green tabs above. These additional pages will include detailed discussion of the results. There is also a page containing a selection of your comments.
Most of the musical styles listed were deemed to be enjoyable, some of the key results listed below:
Enjoy
The lowest value of 36% was for Madrigal
The next lowest of 44% for Folk
Both of these are still good percentages.

The highest value of 22% for Brass Band & Military Band
The next highest of 21% for Jazz & Madrigal
20% for Folk
These figures represent dislikes for around a fifth of those who responded.
Again, most of the musical instruments listed were deemed to be enjoyable.

All remaining instruments were below 10%
None of the main instruments, that we generally feature in any of the concerts, came out as a remotely significant dislike.
These sections provided some very interesting results. Here we asked you to consider your reasons for attending any specific concert. We know that not everyone attends every concert, so what is it about an individual concert that entices you to attend.
The factors were rated on a scale of 1 to 4 with 1 being most important. The final sequence is shown below:

With the musical styles and instruments there were no specific items that stood out as areas to avoid. Although, it will make sense to not have too much of those items mentioned in the 'Dislikes' section. So, hopefully, as long as we mix any of those factors in with the more enjoyable aspects that should make for a good direction to proceed.
What has been shown very clearly is that a good focus on the programme that the artists will perform is very important. To that end the committee is already paying very close attention to the programmes being put forward to us for the 66th season.
Throughout the history of the music club an important aspect has been to provide some items that advance our experience and appreciation of alternate styles. To that end we normally try to include one piece within a concert that is less well known. Also, one of the series of six concerts should be a little different. But our aim would be always to provide enjoyable music. Our pricing structure is such that even if a member decides not to attend one concert a season this still works out to be less than the single concert ticket price, and still less than many other music clubs in the area, representing excellent value for money.
We believe that we have learned a great deal from this survey, and hopefully you have too. In addition we are very much looking forward to presenting the 66th season to you soon with the hope that you will be as excited about it as we are.
