Act I A shabby attic at the top of a poor lodging-house in Paris,
about 100 years ago. (Early evening)
Act II Outside the Café Momus in the streets of Paris.
(Later the same evening)
Act III Outside an Inn on the outskirts of Paris.
(Early morning. Some weeks later.) It is snowing.
Act IV In the attic (Some time later)
